100 Prompts for Writing a Better About Page That Connects and Converts

Your About page is often one of the most visited pages on your website, but it can also be one of the hardest pages to write well. On the surface, it seems simple: introduce yourself, explain what you do, and give people a reason to trust you. But once you sit down to write it, the questions start piling up. How personal should you be? How much of your story should you share? Should it sound polished and professional, or warm and conversational? How do you talk about yourself without sounding awkward, stiff, or overly self-promotional?

That is exactly why so many About pages end up sounding the same. They list credentials, summarize a business, or use broad phrases like “passionate about helping people” without giving readers anything specific to connect with. A strong About page does more than state facts. It helps visitors understand who you are, what you believe, who you serve, and why your work matters. It creates a bridge between your story and your reader’s needs.

The best About pages are not really only about you. They are about the relationship between you and the person reading. Your visitor wants to know whether they are in the right place. They want to understand what makes your approach different. They want to feel a sense of trust before they take the next step, whether that means hiring you, buying from you, subscribing to your newsletter, or continuing to explore your work.

If you are staring at a blank page, prompts can make the process much easier. Instead of trying to write the perfect About page from the first sentence, you can use questions to uncover the raw material: your story, values, audience, experience, personality, and point of view. The prompts below are designed to help you brainstorm deeply, find language that feels natural, and shape an About page that is clear, memorable, and genuinely useful to your readers.

Start With the Basics

  1. Who are you, and what do you do?
  2. Who do you help?

  7. What do people come to you for specifically?

  10. What would you change if you had to make the page half as long?

How to Use These Prompts

You do not need to answer all 100 prompts to write a strong About page. In fact, trying to include everything would probably make your page too long, scattered, or overwhelming. Think of these prompts as a starting point instead of a checklist. Their purpose is to help you uncover the details that matter most: the parts of your story that build connection, the proof that builds trust, the values that shape your work, and the message your ideal reader needs to hear.

Start with the sections that feel most useful right now. If your current About page feels vague, spend time with the prompts about clarity and differentiation. If it feels too formal, use the personality prompts to bring in more warmth and humanity. If it feels too focused on you, revisit the audience-focused questions and look for ways to connect your experience back to the reader’s goals, frustrations, and hopes. If the page feels incomplete, the prompts about story, credibility, and values can help you add depth without adding fluff.

Once you have your answers, look for patterns. Certain words, ideas, and themes will probably come up more than once. Those repeated ideas are clues. They may point to the heart of your message, the promise behind your work, or the reason people choose you. Use those insights to shape a page that has a clear opening, a meaningful story, relevant proof, a sense of personality, and a simple next step.

Most importantly, remember that your About page does not have to impress everyone. It should help the right people feel understood, welcomed, and confident. A great About page does not just tell readers who you are; it shows them why your work matters to them.

Write it in a voice that sounds like you. Be specific where others are generic. Be honest where others are polished. And give your reader a clear reason to stay connected. That is what turns an ordinary About page into one that actually works.

The

BUSINESS

We respectfully acknowledge that our work takes place on the traditional and ancestral lands of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta. This includes the Blackfoot Confederacy, comprising the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai Nations, as well as the Tsuut’ina Nation and the Stoney Nakoda Nations of Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney. We also recognize that Calgary is home to the Otipemisiwak Métis Government of the Métis Nation within Alberta, Region 3.

We honour the enduring relationships that Indigenous Peoples have with this land,
and we recognize that this territory has been a place of gathering, livelihood,
and cultural connection for over 10,000 years.

We acknowledge the deep and ongoing impacts of colonization, including displacement,
cultural erasure, systemic injustices, and intergenerational trauma that continue to affect
First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities today. We recognize that
these harms are not only historical, but present and ongoing.

As a business, we are committed to listening, learning, and taking meaningful steps toward reconciliation. We strive to approach our work with respect, humility, and a responsibility to contribute, however we can, to a more equitable and inclusive future.
