Scope: Brand naming, messaging framework, custom logo system and 15-page website with blog, content marketing strategy, brand materials
Outcome: Launch of a distinctive consulting brand that is gaining recognition within Canada’s energy sector through consistent thought leadership and industry engagement.
Energy professional Luke Killam approached Curator to develop the brand and website for his new consulting company after years of experience across Canada’s energy sector, including oil sands, gas-to-liquids, and onshore renewable energy.
He envisioned a forward-looking consulting firm that would help Canadian homeowners, businesses, municipalities, and governments secure long-term energy solutions that support energy independence, economic resilience, and national energy security.
The challenge was to develop a brand that could communicate credibility across multiple audiences—from homeowners exploring solar energy to municipalities and government organizations evaluating complex energy projects.
At the same time, the brand needed to position the company as a trusted, independent advisor capable of translating complex energy decisions into clear and economically sound strategies.
Curator developed a comprehensive brand strategy that guided the company from early positioning through launch.
This work included strategic brand development, company naming, messaging, identity design, and a custom website designed to educate visitors and build trust.
The name GreenKey Energy was created to symbolize unlocking new energy opportunities while remaining approachable, memorable, and adaptable as the company grows.
The website was structured around a clear educational journey, helping visitors understand GreenKey’s services while positioning the company as a credible voice in Canada’s evolving energy landscape.
Before beginning the naming or design process, Curator worked closely with Luke to clarify the company’s vision, mission, and long-term market positioning.
Together we developed four detailed ideal client profiles representing the key audiences GreenKey Energy would serve:
These strategic foundations informed every element of the project—from the company name and messaging to the website architecture and visual identity.
Luke approached the naming process with a refreshing openness, granting Curator full creative freedom while remaining actively engaged in the strategic discussions that shaped the brand’s direction.
During the naming exploration, the name GreenKey Energy emerged.
Conceptually, the word key represents access, solutions, and the unlocking of new possibilities. Paired with green, it communicates the company’s commitment to both renewable energy and long-term financial growth.
Adding the word Energy ensures immediate clarity for first-time visitors, making the company’s sector instantly recognizable.
The final name balances symbolism with practicality. GreenKey Energy is intuitive, distinctive, and flexible enough to support the company’s long-term growth.
Importantly, the company name was developed through Curator’s strategic naming process and was not generated using AI tools.
Curator also developed the full messaging framework for the brand, including the company tagline, service messaging, and all strategic website copy.
Luke’s work helps clients navigate complex energy decisions while strengthening long-term energy security and independence. At the same time, every recommendation must be grounded in sound economic principles so that energy investments contribute to financial stability for decades to come.
The brand tagline “Own Your Energy. Grow Your Green.” captures this philosophy.
Rather than focusing narrowly on technical consulting services, the phrase emphasizes empowerment—encouraging clients to take control of their energy future while benefiting financially from responsible energy planning.
For the homeowner services division, Curator developed a more direct message addressing a common concern among Canadians evaluating solar installations.
Many homeowners feel uncertain about solar quotes, installation contracts, and long-term projections. To address this concern, Curator created the tagline:
“Don’t Get Burned When You Get Solar.”
The phrase communicates the service’s value proposition immediately while reassuring homeowners that GreenKey exists to help them avoid costly mistakes and make confident energy decisions.
All brand messaging, taglines, and strategic website copy were written by Curator’s CEO and lead designer, Lauren Killam.
The visual identity for GreenKey Energy reinforces the conceptual foundation of the brand name.
The logo incorporates a key symbol, representing access to solutions and the unlocking of new energy opportunities.
The identity system includes multiple logo variations designed for flexibility across digital and print applications:
Together, these elements create a visual language that is both professional and approachable, aligning with the company’s role as a trusted advisor in the energy sector.
Curator designed and developed a custom 15-page website on the Showit platform, allowing for a fully custom layout while maintaining a flexible content management system for ongoing publishing.
The website architecture was designed around an educational user journey. Many prospective clients arrive with an interest in renewable energy but limited clarity about how to evaluate projects or navigate the financial and technical complexities involved.
For this reason, the website prioritizes clarity, accessibility, and trust-building.
The site separates GreenKey Energy’s two primary service areas:
Energy Consulting: Supporting businesses, municipalities, and government organizations in navigating complex energy decisions and long-term planning.
GreenKey Homes: An advisory service helping homeowners evaluate solar installation proposals.
Rather than selling solar systems directly, GreenKey Homes provides independent consulting to homeowners comparing solar quotes. This positioning allows GreenKey Energy to serve as an unbiased advisor, helping clients make informed decisions about long-term energy investments.
Curator wrote the full strategic copy for the website, translating complex energy topics into language accessible to both industry professionals and homeowners exploring renewable energy for the first time.
Client exhibition images represent the design as delivered at project completion. Live websites may evolve over time as clients independently update content or modify layouts.
To support long-term visibility, Curator developed a content marketing strategy centered on consistent thought leadership through the company blog.
The strategic messaging, brand positioning, and website copy were written entirely by Curator.
At the client’s request, AI-assisted drafting was used for long-form blog articles to accelerate production. Long-form educational writing is time intensive, and this approach allowed the project to move forward efficiently while maintaining consistent messaging and editorial oversight.
Luke committed to publishing one blog article each week and sharing the content with his professional network through both the company LinkedIn page and his personal profile.
This disciplined approach has generated strong engagement within the energy community. Industry professionals frequently reference the website and blog during conferences, networking events, and workshops, and the name GreenKey Energy is steadily gaining recognition across Canada’s energy sector.
